Now that spring has well and truly sprung and summer is just around the corner, my thoughts have turned to outdoor pursuits … so I ordered a double hammock/frame combo from Camping Central. Two days later there it was, fully intact in the manufacturers packaging.

I’m happy to say that the hammock frame is really easy to put together. It took me 10-15 minutes, a time frame that would be reduced on a subsequent outing - especially if you remember which way to put the hooks in (TIP: when following instructions please take the time to look at the illustrations properly). It’s a little embarrassing to admit but I put the hook in the wrong way not once but twice. Fortunately they are very quick to take out and put back in so not too much precious time was lost.

The aforementioned instructions are cleverly included within a plastic sleeve on the carry-bag. No excuses for losing these instructions!

The hammock frame offers six settings for the hammock hook - this is great as it allows for the stretching of the hammock cotton. Without the lower holes I imagine you’d up just lying on the ground eventually.

Once constructed, the hammock/frame combo is very light - it’s easy to move it around to chase either the sun or the shade … or to move it in to the garage in order to hide from the children.

Now to the important part: is it comfortable? Of course it is, it’s a hammock! Delightfully supportive yet soft, gentle swaying … you get the picture. The cotton of the hammock is quite soft, not totally smooth but feels good against your skin. The whole set-up feels sturdy, I didn’t have any concerns regarding falling through or out, even when the children decided to join me.

Which brings me to the next thing - you may need more than one so that you can devote the use of one solely to the kids. They don’t seem to understand the point of the hammock - relaxation. Despite the warnings against swinging in the hammock they could not be deterred, really not what I had in mind. However, with a 200kg weight limit you could get quite a few kids in one hammock while you relax in another, swaying gently in the breeze.
